“I Thought I Would Feel Joyful After The Birth Of My Baby…”

We all hear how amazing and wondrous the birth of a new baby is. We hear and see images of a baby being born and the subsequent bliss and joy that fills the room, the smiles and tears of joy.

It is a miraculous experience, to be sure.  Something that awes me and fills me with the kind of love for the parents and baby that comes with being close family. I am deeply touched with the birth of a child, watching the new parents fall in love with their babies.

But sometimes, that joyful feeling doesn’t emerge right away. Sometimes parents need to recover, and in so doing, feel there is something wrong with them if the experience of birth has left them with flashbacks, depression, feelings of regret and disempowerment. Sometimes even Post Traumatic Stress symptoms are present.

This article describes how you are not alone, and what you can do to both prevent and heal unexpected negative thoughts/emotions following the birth of your child.
